If there were somescript_1.awk, somescript_2.awk and somescript_3.awk, in the same directory it would delete somescript_1.awk.

I think the downvotes are undeserved. The answer might be incomplete but it is not incorrect! And I very clearly spell out the assumptions made. Or am I wrong? What are some good reasons for downvoting this answer?

Actually it was just like editing a normal document - mark the text and then select the wanted colour from the toolbar. Before starting I was expecting to have to add some kind of overlay to do what I wanted, but it turned out to be dead simple. I am not sure about the exact version I used, but it is a couple of months ago and I am runnig Fedora 19.

Yes, that is correct.

I successfully edited a PDF to add colours to different states in a b/w state diagram in some document at work using libreoffice and I was severely impressed by the result (it was almost impossible to notice any difference other that the line thickness was slightly different a few places).

comment Howto find duplicate files on disk
(continuing) Does .../camera_pictures/vacation contain all pictures from London and .../vacation/london was just a subset you showed to your neighbour? Or are all files in the london directory also present in the vacation directory? What I have really wanted for many years is a two pane file manager which could take file duplicate information as input to open the respective directories and show/mark which files are identical/different/unique. That would be a power tool.

As already mentioned, just finding duplicates and reporting them is not that hard and can be done with for instance fdupes or fslint. What is hard is to take action and clean up files based on that information. So say that the program reports that /home/yourname/vacation/london/img123.jpg and /home/yourname/camera_pictures/vacation/img123.jpg are identical. Which of those should you choose to keep and which one should you delete? To answer that question you need to consider all the other files in those two directories.

I have a similar function to mkcd only that I name id md. However the using "$@" as argument to cd does not make any sense since you cannot cd to more than one single directory. "$@" will work for mkdir, but then you are handling arguments differently for mkdir and cd, so I would rather suggest md () { mkdir -p "$1"; cd "$1" }

Ctrl+L corresponds to the FormFeed ascii character. It will typically redraw the screen in text applications with a screen window (e.g. vim, less, mc, etc). Nice if the screen has been "polluted" by some output from another program.
