comment Dmenu Processes Forked by Bash?
That still kept dmenu_run as a parent process. What I did was to replace exec with app=. And after that do a exec $app &; disown %1 which detaches the application, so it has no other parent than the system.

comment sudo: don't ask password when logged in with ssh key
While your answer is straight to the point. I find it off putting when the context of usage is something like; I log often from others people terminal to show something I've done on my server and let them roam it, and that's why I have sudo setup to ask for a password every time. However that is an annoyance when I use it. Thanks for the info.

comment SED misbehaving with input file
Oh, and I don't think cat is useless, I always start my commands with cat, do a sed, maybe replace that with a tr, then an awk, replace the tr with sed back. You get the idea, that way I don't shuffle around the input file.

comment SED misbehaving with input file
I've said it in my question, the problem persisted either way "misbehaves on an input file (via cat or as a sed parameter)".
