John WH Smith

Oh boy, it's been dusty in here... Let's write that thing down again.

Hey! I'm John. See, that's what the big letters up there say. Most people would say I'm a developer, or a system administrator, but let's be honest: the professional world is not for me. I'd rather consider myself an enthusiast, who happens to enjoy his place in academia, and does not plan on leaving it anytime soon. As a computer scientist, I focus mainly on artificial intelligence and whatever subfield I can connect to it, especially that thing we used to call problem-solving ("AI algorithmics"). I also have a certain interest in the mathematics of my field, which cover several branches of theoretical computer science, including complexity theory, distributed computation, cryptography, automata theory, and probably a few others (these things never cease to amaze me, but lets be real: I am no mathematician).

On the more "practical" side, I do register as a developer and system administrator though. On the one hand, I love writing C code, and can use a few others such as Python, C++ or Java when needed. I've also had my fair share of web experience, which adds HTML, CSS, PHP, SQL, JS and JSP to my list. On the other hand, I spend some of my time managing Debian-based and Arch-based infrastructures, which I somehow find very relaxing... These fields helped me discover the world of open-source communities, especially that of Linux, which is why you'll find me on U&L Stack Exchange most of the time...

(...or just somewhere else, lost between the wonders of theoretical CS, and the beauty of what has been achieved already)
