comment how to close all panes but the current pane in tmux
@DigitalPowers I like your solution, but sometimes it can make the split pane hard to find. Especially if you close a lot of panes. Since I was binding to a key, I used the hacky option of "enough" swap-pane -U commands to move the pane to position 0, and then kill-pane -a -t 0.

comment Vim - Bind a key to a bash command
You should probably use nmap, otherwise pressing <F3> in insert mode will insert the right hand side as text. Consider nnoremap, so that plugins can't override your binding. Also you can use <silent>, as in nnoremap <silent> <F3> :git commit -am 'test' if you just want to run the command without echoing it. See :he map.

comment Removing all spaces, tabs, newlines, etc from a variable?
Depending on the shell, you may be able to do it without any external tools. See stackoverflow.com/a/3352015/587717

Are you running ssh with -X or the ForwardX11 option set to Yes? It sounds like X forwarding isn't happening.

comment xmodmap configuration to emulate Mac special key layout?
Does it have to be the same keys? It's possible to produce a large array of characters with the compose key. For example I can write ” with <Compose><'><'>.

comment How to select/delete until end of file in vim/gvim?
To add to @Reid's comment, when thinking about sub commands, think about motions and actions. There are (pretty intuitive if you ask me) shortcuts for each, and they can be combined in many intuitive ways. select a sentence, delete a line, yank to the end of the line change the text within the closest quotes, increment the first number on this line, etc. This is immensely powerful, you can't compare windows shortcuts with this.

comment Save sessions to file in xmonad
If you are using a display manager to log in, could you not create various sessions in that? You can create a few of these, to start programs and end with exec xmonad, and then choose the one you want at log in. You can then use xmonad's manageHooks to place them in the right arrangement on the right workspace.
