thanks, for my use, it has too problems, 1- it needs for the affected "window" to be sent to background (which I don't want) 2- My screen, does not ring the bell it just displays a line in the message line.

It is really ugly! But still it works fine, on every descent OS. How did you get to learn this?!

By the way I imagine I can pass $LINE to awk or sod if I am interested in further manipulations, but just out of curiosity that would be nice to see if there are other solutions maybe involving awk or sed without a while and read -t !

@cupgeniusmv cool! What in heavens name is read and why it doesn't have its own man page. Still read -t is very cool, I didn't know there is such a thing.

@sr_ thanks for wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/… I have read that already, but still in practice I want to see if it's just me or other people also find it to much trouble to choose all the packages and install everything by hand? I mean I know that I need to change a few things from a standard ubuntu distro but when I tried Arch I need to make all sorts of decisions that I didn't cared about that much.

I got it and it works perfectly, so basically you are suggesting that i replace rsync with unison? Which is a great suggestion. Still I need to mount my NFS mounts and then use unison to sync them, correct?

thanks, It looks like Unison is not being actively developed, do you use it or have you used it before?
