Hmm... The code was just a quick example. Maybe I should delete it. Alternatively do you know the correct command for this env?

comment Why was '~' chosen to represent the home directory?
I have also read this is why Esc is used to switch modes in vi, since the key is easy to reach on this type of keyboard.

comment How do I know that FXP is enabled or not? (AIX FTPD)
Thanks, @Nikhil. Unfortunately I do not have an AIX box to verify the option - perhaps someone else can confirm.

comment Why are PATH variables different when running via sudo and su?
+1 - Cool, I was wondering why it was not in the path, and that makes sense. For what it's worth, I was building node.js from scratch to play around with it, so it makes sense why it would have been put there, and why sudo would exclude this directory by default.

I just tried it and now I see /usr/local/bin. Thank you so much for explaining this!

Ah, I see that in my file. So, not that I want to, but if I added /usr/local/bin to this directive then I would see it in my path when running via sudo, right?

Interesting. This was on Fedora 12, for what it's worth...

comment Recommend a Linux Distribution for my use
An issue you might run into with a VM is memory. You would want to dedicate ~512 MB to the VM. With 2 GB of RAM that is a large chunk. On the other hand I don't run OSX so you may just be fine.

What kind of device is /dev/sda? A SATA hard drive? SCSI? Also, what kind of file system is it using?
