How can I break away from an SSH session that has crashed? You should also remember to press Enter before ~. The escape character works when it is first character in the line. And also you can use ~ and later ? to get help from ssh client. |

Determine which process is creating a file I think that editors just open and read the file to the memory and close it. After that they only monitor file for changes (like vim). |

Common multiple SSH connections file handling issue If you want prompt you should use such command ssh -t server1 'ssh server2'. But these is not the answer for question. It doesn't allow you to use scp command. |
