My thoughts
Me on launchpad PPA
Evidently one of my mini-apps was useful enough to make it on to Webupd8
Do you use/like that app? Maybe you want to help fund a cryptogram game

comment How to record Skype video calls on Linux?
have you tried gtk-recordmydesktop? i can record most anything with it. ffmpeg -i x11grab works too. if you're having problems getting the audio alsa-loop works.

comment Is there a downside to ksplice?
+1 to that. There would be MANY intricacies to tracking a hot-patched kernel and what hot-patches were applied. And it doesn't even begin to touch what happens if even a non-hotpatched system would have crashed on a kernel upgrade(panic, fail to boot, etc). I like having the fall-back option...I don't know if ksplice duplicates the running kernel as a backup or not.

Thanks. I was using portsnap/portupgrade/portaudit. I hadn't looked into portmaster. The relevant example/switch was --list-origins.

Sorry Gilles. I haven't probed too deeply into this one(still a FreeBSD n00b, although I do have gnome/flash on native firefox/general multimedia working).

comment What's causing VirtualBox OSE to hang my machine?
Doesn't ubuntu "require" compiz effects now? That's my bet on a likely culprit...probing for video card capabilities.

comment what is the difference between cross-compiling and native compiling
@mattdm - if we are talking cross compiling across architecture it is not. if we are talking about cross compiling from linux to windows...maybe I'm interpreting cross-compiling differently.

comment How can I tell *which* application is asking for access to gnome-keyring/Seahorse?
An alternate workaround is to create an empty default-keyring and force the user to switch between keyrings if they MUST have autologin AND a keyring without a hassle box.

comment How can I tell *which* application is asking for access to gnome-keyring/Seahorse?
I grasp the security implications and the difficulty the developers of gnome-keyring have in identifying the caller for keychain access. My proposed solution is to offload the work onto the application that uses keyring. For example, if your app wants access to the keyring it should emit a dialog stating something to the effect of "/me wants access to the keyring". This removes the need for an API change that would break current functionality and keeps devs of the keyring from getting overwhelmed. Just thoughts.

comment How to get infrared image data with sane on an epson v700 scanner?
knowing that vuescan will do it makes me think you might look at what options it passes to the scanner driver. i don't have a scanner to test/debug on though

Just an additional note. Cross compiling may require some library installation on the target(MSYS possibly)
