comment What are the pros/cons of deb vs. rpm?
In my opinion, I've despised RPM's for the exact reason you mentioned: "RPM also suffered from sites like rpmfind where you would find 10+ incompatible packages for different distributions." Also I find it excessively difficult to find an RPM for software I need. While for DEB: "Apt completely hid this problem for DEB packages because all packages got installed from the same source." which are really easy to find and use. Also, DEB always seems to find and install dependencies better while RPM's seemed to always let me hanging... my opinion after 15 years of using both!

comment Why is there no “Euro English” locale?
@tripleee: What I mean by 'hierarchy' is the order in which the records in locals are resolved.

comment Why is there no “Euro English” locale?
@tripleee: It's just that how would you determine hierarchy? Is 'en_NA' go before 'en_US' or after in the resolution path? Does 'en/cree' go after or before 'en_US'? Only having language/nation, we know what to expect, introducing others could become quite 'out of control' as I mentioned (but that's only my opinion).

Locales were created for language/nation combo's and not for political or geographical groups of nations. If they derive from the 'nation' standard, people will be requesting 'spanish/NorthAmerica' or 'english/cree' (Indian tribe) or stuff like that. They'll totally lose control.

Yes, great tip... if only I remembered to use them :)

comment Is there a way to stop having to write 'sudo' for every little thing in Linux?
The 'sudo' is one of those ridiculous commands that is being used and abused too frequently by new Linux users. Often I will see tutorials on the web where 15 commands in a row will use sudo? In normal situations, you shouldn't need special perms while logged on as a regular user (recommended). I was at a company where everything they did used sudo. When I tried to ban it (for security reasons), they complained. After examining the cryptic sudo config file, I saw a flaw (as always) that allowed me to 'root' the system from that regular user. Sudo is extremely dangerous!!

comment Why does Unix store timestamps in a signed integer?
That's why Nostradamus couldn't use his computer to write his predictions for the years 3000+... it would cause an overflow and show his dates as negative. I think they called it the Y3K bug or something!

comment Why ACPI Namespace keeps changing
I can appreciate the evolution of changes within the Linux ACPI modules, but I don't understand the naming conventions. Like I said, TZ00 and TZ01 makes no sense to anyone. Given that these are normally 2 degrees Celsius apart, which is the CPU and what in the world could the other be? Valid names like 'core0' or 'cpu0' or 'gpu1' etc would be more informative and logical. Thanks for you response!
