Thanks. I've tried using hdparm. Checking the write-protect bit does say that is is on. Setting it seems like it succeeded, but it is still write-protected and removing and re-plugging the disk-on-key makes that bit to return to 'on'

It was indeed security = user but it was also commented-out. Tries un-commenting it, and changed it to security = share, but I got the same results

Tried it, but I'm getting mount error(5): Input/output error. Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) And if I sniff with Wireshark I see I get STATUS_ACCOUNT_RESTRICTION from the server

@schaiba - I don't have live essentials
