I worked as an industry developer at a small London company for 2½ years, I've now switched to a PhD (also in London).

As part of my studies I do many body simulations, mostly in Python Cython and C, and outside them I mess around with websites and fun languages (in particular a fan of lisp at the moment.) I worked with ActionScript 2 and 3, C#, and SQL at my proper job.

oh, and I use fish, by the way. I'll see if I can find a ulimit for it. Note, I also use fish under screen on OS X, which is why I didn't mention this stuff before.

The total CPU usage is always the total of my processes and change - nothing else is getting in the way. (this is literally a blank box just with XFCE debian installed, and my python code/libraries it needs.) I'll post info comparing the priority of directly run screen processes (which are unaffected) and the priority of the throttled processes from before, now.

As I mentioned, the script works as expected on Linux to start with, and also works fine on OS X. I do not believe it is a problem with the script, which is why I've asked it here. I will post the details of the forking procedure above.
