Thanks for pointing me to cdargs. Simply sudo apt-get cdargs on ubuntu. BTW the youtube video is really bad but the tool is great.

@jonrdanm I stand corrected, that tool seems simple enough that you don't need to switch to another language. I actually think your answer with jshon is the best since it is meant to be used from the shell.

Why do you need to do this in bash? you are clearly using python here so why not just create a python script that does the job? You might not get actual answers on how to do it with bash because when you need to do that much you use another language.

I also like to add --delete otherwise the backup just grows with things you don't need anymore. Make sure to use that option with care!

comment How to create LDAP bind account in Centos/RedHat that allows me to search by ldapbind@server.com
edit: made it clear that I have an AD that allows my ldapsearch client to query using email. But it fails when querying the local LDAP.

The problem is not that ldapsearch doesn't have the ability to search a DN with email field, the problem is that when I query my current LDAP configuration it says 'Invalid DN'. Meaning the problem is with my LDAP configuration. So I want to know how to configure my LDAP to allow that.
