How to strip a Linux system? Bootchart it is! I compiled it, ran it, and it gave me extremely verbose and useful results. I'm not going to strip the system just yet, as I'm going to implement a source-based package manager (Gentoo?), but I will definitely use this. Thanks! |

What is Wayland? I read that, but to no avail. I'm guessing it's a mix between a Window Manager and X server? I'll have to do more homework on it ;) |

Drag and drop between windows in tiling i.e. minimalist WMs? It's coded into the app from what I can tell. It's a really painful process to support drag and drop, as I tried it with my QT application. |

How to strip a Linux system? I was looking a busybox, but I first have to get my tiny X server running, as that takes up the most space. Thanks! |

How to strip a Linux system? It used GCC, Python, etc. to build, but they are now obsolete for my purposes. |

How to strip a Linux system? I'm building off of a LFS install + Xorg, Python, and Google Chrome. Nothing fancy. |

[LFS] What is the most compatible tiny X server? Hmm, I really would like to implement my 9800GT, as it does give me a huge performance boost by taking a load off of my processor... So I guess XFree86 is out of the game, huh? |

[LFS] What is the most compatible tiny X server? Okay, I will. I hope I don't look like I'm spamming this place to death with my questions... |

How to strip a Linux system? Now, might I ask, why is there a separate Ubuntu-based Stack Exchange site? I think they should merge with this site, because AFAICT, Ubuntu should be considered Linux/Unix, but I'm not too sure ;) If not, get ready for GentooOverflow and FedoraOverflow! |

Why do unix-heads say “minus”? Wait, but why would Windows use -? Whenever I switch to Windows (and sadly, it occurs), I always get yelled at because only a handful of programs actually use - to delimit arguments. Windows uses /, which is even more fun (actually, I don't even remember. Maybe it's {forward slash}). Command Prompt--. |

[LFS] What is the most compatible tiny X server? BLFS has some documentation on XFree86, and it too requires some significant source mods. At least it can be done, so I will post back if I get it running. Meanwhile, I'll see what else I can dig up. Thanks! |

[LFS] What is the most compatible tiny X server? Ouch. What kind of source mods? I don't think running 2.6.36.2 (latest stable) would make this any easier... I'm a bit confused: isn't XFree86 the predecessor of X11? It says on the site that X provides an API for applications, while XFree86 does not. I hope this won't hamper the performance of my OS... |
