comment cannot start PostgreSQL on OpenBSD 5.4 through rc.d
@cnst Yeah, after you run pkg_add, there should have been some helpful messages pointing you in the right direction. There's at least a few things you need to do after installing the package before you can start postgres up. If for whatever reason that was missing, or you didn't see it, you can check: /usr/local/share/doc/pkg-readmes for the file on postgresql.

comment Why can't I modify OpenBSD securelevel?
Don't think this will work, as only init can lower the securelevel. Root user can raise it, but not lower it.

comment What is the benefit of compiling your own linux kernel?
Well, it's not my fault my answer was accepted. And while yes there are cases where compiling your kernel will help you "eek out some performance" or get up and running on a low power machine, I made the assumption that the original question was being asked by someone who didn't have a specific need ahead of time, and was just curious in the general sense what the benefit of compiling a kernel was. I would argue that only people with specific requirements in mind benefit from kernel tweaks. Since my answer was accepted I'll improve it to address the more power-user reasons for custom kernels
