add a sleep to is #!/bin/sh sleep(60) # one min netctl start bridge It shouldn't cause the system to hang as it should be spawned as a separate process.

If you have another computer you might be able to PXE boot. It'll might take some time to setup though. Check the BIOS to see if it has network boot, boot from network or similar phrasing.
