@Geek It's just a different namespace. There is no need for filesystem access and cleanup. On the other hand anyone can grab a well-known name, so you may have to check the credentials of the server process.

Just don't use out of tree drivers. Ralink has fine in-kernel drivers. Upgrade your kernel if the chipset is really new, build backported drivers if you can't upgrade.

The data du is missing could be shadowed by a mount, or kept in snapshots (if btrfs). Unlinked files is just one possibility.
