I'm an EECS student at UC Berkeley. Interested in everything about computers. Primarily use Windows but with a large smattering of GNU software, enough that I consider it GNU/NT ;). I also like Linux in general but mostly run it in a VM, but I'm not a noob to Linux. I am also a new system administrator for the student group HKN. I'd appreciate any help and advice from more experienced sysadmins. We use mostly Linux systems, but we do occasionally have to do maintenance on a couple of Windows boxes.

comment Highlight path separators in PS1
That part actually came from Ubuntu default file, wasn't aware that could be affecting it. Actually I ended up realizing that he had put the whole thing in PROMPT_COMMAND including the PS1 part and it worked.

Incidentally, it's worth mentioning that this will take you as high up in the hierarchy as possible (which is probably the most useful use case anyway).
