comment Possible to move a window from one X screen to another on same host?
Thanks for trying to answer but this just isn't what the problem is. I'm talking about moving between X screens in the same server, not between X Servers.

@Nils The host I have this problem on is running Xubuntu 15.04, which is the XFCE version of Ubuntu.

@NathanFellman Possibly, but I don't even think in my case I'm talking about moving between displays. According to my process list, I'm only running once instance of the X process, which is :0. There is no :1 or :2, etc. Maybe this is just a problem with how XFCE manages multiple screens or something in my configuration. Regarding the programs mentioned so far, none of them seem to be still maintained or available. xmove is almost 20 years old and I can't find a copy of XiMove. xpra also seems like the wrong kind of program for what I'm trying to do.

comment Ubuntu 14.04 I can't get SSH tunneling to work with -g switch?
Try running ssh with -v and possibly without -N and -f and this should spit out some errors in the terminal that will be helpful in debugging where the problem is really occurring.

comment Why the existence of gunzip?
Interesting question. Probably the only way to find out for sure is to find the reasons through an extensive search of old Usenet articles or e-mails. I suspect that @lcd047 is correct. gzip uses the same Lempel-Ziv algorithm that pkzip used so I guess they decided that its a clone of pkzip. I never think of it as a clone of pkzip but when you read the gzip man page that connection cannot be ignored.
