comment Debian Cannot Access Internet Despite Being “Connected”
The only way I can "connect" is by selecting WEP (Hex [0-9/A-F]). I can ping the router. However the dns seems messed up. The rest of the computers on the network are having no trouble at all.

comment How do I SSH into my Samba file server?
I'm having a bit of trouble with tcpdump, how would I check? How do I find my routers LAN IP? My default gateway is 192.168.10.1 Another thing, I discovered that I can ssh into the server from outside of my network. If I'm somewhere else it works great. However using the public IP from within the network doesn't work, but the private IP still allows me access.

comment How do I SSH into my Samba file server?
Hey, so I just read that it's possible that my ISB(comcast) blocks port 22. Would changing it to a different port be possible? How hard would it be to ssh on a different port(especially for programs like CVS and stuff)?

Alright, so I forwarded port 22, and put 192.168.10.110 as the address for the LAN server. This is the private IP address of the Samba machine. Now when I try to ssh remotely it times out, rather than saying connection refused for some reason.

I'm really weary about putting my IP up here, how can I easily tell you? The first 3 set of numbers is 67.161.81. The ip is static.

Why is my IP address necessary(Sorry I'm paranoid, I posted on hear a few months ago and some guy got control of my machine and destroyed it).

What is a private LAN? Ya I have a firewall(as far as I can tell). I don't know what NAT is, and my router is a trendnet TEW-632BRP.

That was it, I can't believe I spent so much time trying to figure out something so simple. I hit 'q' and things progressed flawlessly.

You are correct. I can't believe it was something so incredibly simple, I spent hours trying to figure this out last night. Thanks.

comment Make and apt-get Have Stopped Working
Ah I see. Do you know if it's bad that I have several different versions of the same package? Is there any reason I shouldn't just delete gcc-4.3-base and gcc-4.4-base since I have 4.7? I'm having a bit of trouble completely understanding the whole package system.

I'm running squeeze. I've run update a bunch, it still won't work. I've also run apt-get -f install. By package list do you mean sources? I can post it if that will help.

Ah alright, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what might be going on here? Apt-get just doesn't want to work anymore. Doesn't apt-get automatically find and include dependencies?

I figured out wicd-curses, and after 3 days of hell I was able to connect. Thanks for the suggestions, I'm finally done.

I'm fine with GUIs, but I don't have one on this machine(and don't want one). I couldn't figure out how to use Network Manager, so I just installed wicd-curses, but am having trouble figuring it out as well. All unix instructions are so terse I can rarely figure them out.
