comment Can Linux programs be sent a SIGXXX command they can respond to in the UI?
The question is not a duplicate of the others, and I am interested in the general case of all programs, not just graphics desktop based GUI programs. nano is not a graphical desktop program. I am interested in knowning if there is a command that Linux programs, whether graphical desktops or not, are required to treat as the equivalent of the user quitting it from the menu, or a key combination, either as an accepted standard or a respected convention. The vote to close is not applicable here.

comment What is the syntax for passing the output of a command to xargs?
If there was more than one item per output line eg val1 val2 val3 would it be possible to pass them to xargs using something like this like this after the pipe symbol xargs -n 3 xdotool --opt1=$1 --opt2=$2 --opt3=$3 where $1, $2 etc would be the output line split by the spaces?

comment What is the syntax for passing the output of a command to xargs?
I made an error in the question which I've corrected. The output is each on a separate lines My intention is to have the xargs xdotool command on the same line as the first xdotool command in the way xargs command are usually constructed. Would something on the lines of xdotool search --name "a_program" | xargs -n 1 echo xdotool getwindowname be correct?

comment Is there a way to monitor all events sent to the libnotify module?
The question is about libnotify rather than inotify unless libnotify events can be tracked via inotify. It it is a mistake, I will create a similar question for inotify and you can place this answer there
