comment Why is this python error message generated whenever I type a nonsense command?
the links to command-not-found seem broken (although it's hard to tell if "error" is the expected outcome when searching for "command-not-found"...)

I mean, what if the file is This\nis a very\nlong pattern, and I don't know where the line breaks might occur. I'd have to search for This\sis\sa\svery\slong\spattern, right ? (which becomes tedious as the length of the pattern increases or is pasted from elsewhere)

Definitive, forgive my second language. As a side note, emacs' search seems to do the job (isearch-forward)

Do I have to type \s 5 times if I search for "this is a very long pattern" ?

comment How can I write to the second line of a file from the command line?
@glennjackman: your version doesn't work on my system, but the answer does. Specifically, with yours, line 2 is duplicated and the new line is inserted between both (so as line 3).
