comment Is it possible to run a thin client in virtualbox?
VirtualBox creates a VM that has nothing but CPU, RAM and configured devices, so it is assumed that you install the OS inside. Thus, no thin client is possible.

comment Found Duplicate PV in LVM disk scan
Then I have no recipe as it seems you can't do with this VM whatever you like - you only can mount the volumes you have. As an alternative, boot a VM from that old image, copy the files you need to some other location (ftp, your local site, e.t.c.)

comment Install Linux on RAID system or outside in separate partition?
Why not to get benefits of storing rootfs on RAID? Even should you have problems to boot due to any reason you always may try to recover with any bootable LiveCD of your choice.

comment How do I use Ctrl + Fn + Num on XFCE
As far as I know the Fn key is not serviced by the OS - it is implemented in hardware, so I am surprised that you have it working with Gnome and not working with XFCE
