comment sysrq-trigger doesn't accept parameter 'g'
I had the same problem -- it turned out to be an error in extlinux.conf which caused the kgdboc boot option to not be passed.

comment Help with diagnosing a mdm/Cinnamon freezing problem?
I'm having the same problem, on Mint 17.1. top shows that memory/CPU usage are both low when the Cinnamon graphical environment is frozen. I haven't confirmed yet whether the same messages show in .xsession-errors. Can anyone answer -- when the screen freezes like this, which processes might be involved? Is this more likely a failure in the X server, or Cinnamon, or something else?

comment How to tell if mysterious programs in nethogs listing are malware?
So for non-networking-savvy users, in short... these are not separate processes at all but are connections which were made by my web browser, and which are waiting to close? (In netstat I can see their state is LAST_ACK.)
