I'm a software engineer at the Wikimedia Foundation. I'm on the Growth team.

In 2010, I earned my BS in Computer Science from Georgia Tech, where I was a research assistant with the Electronic Learning Communities lab.

Feel free to try out ProveIt, a tool we developed at ELC for Wikipedia reference management.

comment Root access that can't change root password?
@MichaelKjörling, I think this is just an example. But to be clear, the right way to let users edit system config files is to let them run sudoedit. You can specifically identify which files they should be able to sudoedit. This is in man sudoers.

comment What's the difference between 'no caching page mode present' and 'assuming drive cache. write through.'
It says "assuming drive cache" so I don't think "there is no caching of reads or buffering of writes" is correct. Generally, a write-through cache means "Write is done synchronously both to the cache and to the backing store" So there can definitely still be caching of reads.

comment apt-get install - where does it go?
It's in a sub-directory the current directory (you'll also see the tarball and diff used to extract it). :)

comment What should I teach in my Linux class?
@HandyGandy, clearly he has some ideas of what to teach. But I agree such decisions (possibly with consultation) should be made before the beginning of the class.

comment Diff command. Basic explanation
I recommend you use unified diffs (add -u). They're easier to read and more resilient to unrelated changes.
