I started using Linux on a daily basis in 2004. My favourite distribution is Gentoo.

How to correctly set up the right GRUB 2 default menu entry? I don't have that option in my /etc/default/grub file. |

How to correctly set up the right GRUB 2 default menu entry? I don't know why, but it seems it doesn't work. I set GRUB_DEFAULT=3 as you said, then re-run grub2-mkconfig. But at boot time the default entry is still vmlinuz-3.7.4-gentoo-third. |

dd: How do I know if it's still working? This might be helpful for the next time, but it won't help the OP to understand if the current command is frozen or not. |

What is the Linux equivalent to C:\Program Files? This is does not respond to what the OP has asked. |

Which “Processor family” to choose under “Processor type and features”? @warl0ck: It seems to me that the phrase "Newer ones have 6 and older ones 15" refers to Xeon CPUs only. The OP has a Pentium processor instead. Since Pentium is neither Xeon nor Core 2, I think CONFIG_MCORE2 is not the correct option to enable. Unfortunately I don't know which is the correct one. |
