comment How to fix/setup routing from host to guest on VirtualBox?
Definitely. I will need to remember to accept it in 2 days after it is allowed (unless someone writes better answer before then).

@Gravy, thanks for the tip about "-I". Apparently vboxnet1 wasn't up. I found the solution here: bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=131711 and bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1178607. I wanted to avoid a bridge connection because I didn't want my guest exposed (even though this is overkill on my LAN).

comment How do I fix broken libxml2-dev dependency on Debian using apt?
Sorry, I meant the file /usr/include/libxml2 was corrupted. Even rm -f /usr/include/libxml2 would fail, saying something like it couldn't find the file. It took my webhost 17 hours to fix it.

This didn't help in my case, because the file ended up being corrupted. Would recommend this procedure for others with library dependency issues (+1).

@Gilles Ah, the permissions are messed up: ls -l says that it can't access libxml2 (even as root) and it gives ? marks in place of all of the permission information. Promote to answer? Not sure how to fix, but I can look into / talk to my host.
