Thanks for the hint! Changed -and to -a. I think a visible operator makes the statement more legible.

apt-get purge doesn't touch config files in your $HOME dir. You have to delete them on your own. Just type ls -d .* and look for names that are related to the stated programs. Delete them with a simple rm -r.

NERD Commenter is the way to go here in my opinion! +1 for that

comment Interacting with X applications programmatically
i think the use of xdotool should only be considered in real emergency cases! Scripting something serious with xdotool is more a pain than a pleasure. Before you try xdotool ask the developer if the application has a dbus interface. That would make your plan much simpler.

If you still have the corresponding makefile and are lucky enough that it implements the uninstall target a simple make uninstall should remove all files that were previously installed.

comment How to do the ESCAPE + “_” shortcut in bash?
Bash provides some commands to perform the expansion of the current line. For example history expansion is done by the history-expand-line command which is mapped to M-^ in emacs mode by default.

comment Why does Red Hat Linux use such an old kernel?
I think the principal criterion for RHEL & co is stability. The 2.6.32 branch of the kernel is rated very stable after years of testing and bug chasing. I run the same version of the kernel on my system and i'm very enthusiastic about it's stability.

I'm glad to see that it's working for you. Feel free to revise my answer (but maybe your reputation count isn't sufficient for this yet)

I don't use mint nor i use gnome currently. But i remember that you have to right click on the desktop and create a launcher. A window with several entries pop's up. There must be one entrybox in that window where you have to put the command.

Which terminal program are you used to (xterm, urxvt, gnome-terminal, etc)?

More revealing would be if you post what curl -i --user-agent "Mozilla/5.0" --cookie cookie.tx <URL> yields. You can find my output here (the "real" location of the video is in the Line beginning with Location:)

without a ~/.curlrc curl -L --user-agent "Mozilla/5.0" --cookie <COOKIE> -o <FILE> <URL> works for me (just tried it again for a second)

It definitely works. I downloaded the video both with curl and wget. It looks like your session was finalized in the meanwhile and you have to get a new valid cookie.

Maybe you have to specify the user-agent of your request via the --user-agent <agent string> switch. A common <agent string> is Mozilla/5.0.
