comment What does port mean in context of a shell in unix?
I'm quite sure, that the author means that most of the common shells are now also available on those operating systems that differs from the OS, for that the specific shell was originally developed for. The term 'port/porting' is commonly used to describe the transfer of one software to different platforms.

comment Find word in sentence with Bourne Shell (sh)
probably this doesn't work since * is the globbing operator responsible for file name expansion (this way it won't work in bash either)!? Why don't you want to use other unix standard tools (sed, awk, perl...)?

Probably you misinterpret the output. Of course you get a line like [3] + Running sleep 100 [2] - Running sleep 100 prompted on stdout, since grep finds your search pattern R and prints the corresponding line. The important point is what grep returns. If you invoke echo $? immediatly after grepping you should see 0 which signals success. A 1 would mean that grep didn't find anything. Have you tried my example on your system?

comment Remove comma between the quotes only in a comma delimited file
Thanks for your comment. Would be interesting if either the [^"]* approach or the explicit non-greedy approach consumes less cpu time.

Thanks for your objection, I have corrected that. Nevertheless I think we don't need look behind assertion here, or do we!?

comment Log file visualizer in a Terminal (UNIX) (terminal logging replay)
Just a comment: maybe rootsh can help you to achieve your goals. It is just perfect to log terminal sessions and i think it can help you to replay session as well (add marker/time stamps to your log file). Just calculate the time interval dt between consecutive logged commands, wait dt seconds and put the stdin and stdout of the logged session on stdout. And of course you can embed this in a ncurses front end, but i have no idea about that :) . Just my two cents.

comment Pattern matching exception for shell script
It seems to me that you try to reinvent the wheel. Especially related to the processing of the filenames, that probably share a common pattern. For a task like this you should consider to use a tool that supports regular expressions. It is tedious to do all the text processing only with built-in bash commands.

Do you have a crystal ball around? But yes, i agree with you about your last statement, i will add the version requirement of readarray to my answer.
