comment Why is `du --apparent-size` sometimes off by more than 90%?
@Mark Wagner: It's AUFS, according to docs.travis-ci.com/user/workers/container-based-infrastructure

comment “alternatives” for shared libraries? Does that even work?
What does ldd $your_executable look like? As far as I understand your explanation, it would not list libblas.so, but libopenblas.so (or whatever it is called).

To clarify, all entries in the filesystem tree in question are plain contiguous files, symlinks and directories. There are no sparse files. There are no device files, FIFOs, or any other funky business.

comment Is there a nice packaging tool for configuration packages?
Edited the question to clarify that I'm not looking for a configuration management tool.

I sketched it out in my head, and can't see that fitting within a dozen lines of shell script.

comment Configuration management via versioned packages

comment How to add a newline to the end of a file?
Works for me; it even prints "Newline appended" (ed-1.10-1 on Arch Linux).

comment What is needed for a minimal systemd boot to launch getty on a virtual console?
AFAIK the [Install] section is not used by the boot sequence, only by systemctl enable. What the boot looks at is the symlinks in /etc/systemd/system/basic.target.wants/, which are created by systemctl enable.

comment Is there a Vim syntax file for ANSI-colored output of CLI apps?
... And it's very difficult to Google for that topic. Every query that includes "vim" and "colors" brings up hundreds of color schemes, which is not what I want.
