comment How to set downloaded Firefox to default web browser in Debian?
How do you see that it's not working? Which browser gets chosen when you start x-www-browser yourself?

@chalist: Do you receive an error message? What is the output of update-alternatives --display x-www-browser?

revised Gnome shell Alt+Tab
Corrected spelling and formatting. Is the title correct now? Because it said "ctrl+tab" but the TO never mentions ctrl in his post.

comment Windows-like visual style for Gnome/Cinnamon?
I don't mean any offense and I'm sorry if this comment is off-topic, but are you sure this approach is a good idea? What are you trying to accomplish by doing this? If you want to persuade your friend into using Linux, you could for example burn a live-CD of a beginner-friendly distro and show her how Linux works and what you think it does better than Windows without manipulating her computer (I believe you wouldn't want to have this done to your machine either). That way she would also be able to ask questions if there is something she doesn't understand.

comment How do I get Fedora 17 boot media to boot my laptop?
"I first had Windows 7 and Ubuntu on a dual boot; however, I got rid of the dual boot and installed Ubuntu 12.04" - how did you remove Windows? Did you do it properly, i.e., formatting the Windows partitions so that nothing will be left of it? I just found this page which says that the bootmgr error results from a broken Windows installation. Perhaps this might be the case? ehow.com/info_12147686_bootmgr-ubuntu-missing.html

comment FATAL : No Bootable medium found! System halted
Did you check the VBox.log? Posting it might help a bit. Press Crtl+L in VirtualBox when the BackTrack entry is selected or go look for it somewhere around here: /home/$USER/.VirtualBox/Machines/$YOURMACHINE/Logs
