I'm doing a PhD in computational physics, I use Unix primarily as a tool. I am pragmatic (tcsh) scripter, writing simple scripts to do tedious work for me.

I'm actually not too surprised. Some authentication is needed, and short of some key exchange (which I can't do anyway because I don't control the server) my client needs to have the plain text password to do the authentication. That's why I asked if there's anyway to use the fact that I'm already typing the password anyway to log in...

comment Saving files to NTFS is corrupted?
I have one external media drive I use for media w/ NTFS that works great with both OS, but for the /home drive it's always failed with me. My media drive is rarely mounted and always unmounted neatly. Also, I'll admit I've given up on NTFS on linux a few years ago so it might be better. But I've lost too much data to care to try again.
