comment wget not working but apt-get does
Could you share the output of Wget. Why exactly does it not work? What is the error? It would be even better if you can share the output with the --debug option when running Wget

comment In a shell script, How to give a variable another value after one job is done?
Not an answer, but you definitely should try to use more verbose variable names. Single character names are only a recipe for disaster

comment redirect output to specific line number
Why not split this into two commands. Let grep do its job and output to a temp file and then at NR==3, simply print the entire file at that location?

comment Mutt: define macro for a specific folder
You're right. I should RTFM more clearly. I had missed out on the . representing all folders and was looking for a regex like expression to get the things done.

comment Recommended file system for cloning AUR-mirror?
Why exactly do you wish to keep an AUR mirror with you locally? The AUR is extremely large, and it is highly unlikely that you will use even 1% of the packages listed on it. I'm assuming that you have some misunderstanding of what the AUR is and how it works.

comment Can i capture and send GET requests with wget?
What exactly are you trying to do? Wget does not "capture" network packets at all. If you want a look at the response to a GET request, sure.

comment Bash: Syntax Error on @()
Damn! I'm enabling extglob, but after the function is defined. Once I fixed the order, it works! I never came across this issue in the past, maybe all the other systems were setting extglob globally. Thanks a bunch!

comment Bash: Syntax Error on @()
No, I checked that multiple times. I think you found 1 extra paren which is a part of the switch-case syntax. This function currently works for me on Arch Linux, too.

comment How should I combine many compressed files into one archive?
Have you tried scripting it, so that you uncompress one file, add all the files to a given archive and then move to the next?

What are the permissions on the viminfo file? What is the output of ls -la .vininf*?

comment How to delete number of lines from file repetitively
How does sort and uniq help in this case? Your solution would fail on the given example itself. Since the output is expected to be 4,5,5, however, uniq would eliminate the second 5.

comment Installing iPython3 Fedora 20
If the package in your distribution has not been updated to the latest version, it is probably because the updated version has some problems. Unless you wish to compile from sources and maintain it on your own, do not try to update your ipython package through any other means.

comment What is difference between GTK and QT applications?
While I will agree with you about the history and etymology of GTK, this does not implicitly imply that GNU/Linux is GTK oriented. In fact the opposite is true and is confirmed by your statements. GTK was designed for linux, not the other way around. I'd defend my thesis stating that Linux as a kernel and GNU/Linux as an operating system are agnostic towards any GUI Toolkit. GTK is often seen in the wild more than Qt because of Ubuntu's heavy dependence on it. Also the fact that it is lighter on system resources helps.

comment How to set conkys window width?
You don't need to reboot your machine to see updates to conky configs. In fact, conky seems to use inotify to ensure that an edited configuration file is automatically loaded and the updated conky displayed.
