comment List optional dependencies with pacman on arch linux
@jordanm: As has build dependencies and optional dependencies. Optdeps are required only for certain features of a package. So, unless you are using that feature, you don't really need to bloat your system with a load of dependencies.

AFAIK, I don't think you can do that with pacman straight away. But it is very possible to write a small script to do it. Query pacman for list of installed packages. Have Yaourt fetch their PKGBUILDs and read the list of optdeps. The latest version of pacman-git has a commit that states whether the optdeps have already been installed.

I've been facing this since quite some time now. Did you recently convert to systemd? Because I think, I started facing this ever since I made the move to systemd, but I am not sure.

@Salil: Without using --with-ck-launch I cannot use the power options on my DE. Even after making the switch to systemd. In any case, I tried both ways, doesn't resolve my audio issue

No, I tried with various other Desktop Environments also. I am currently using XFCE. But the same issue persists in LXDE and GNOME3. I start X using: startxfce4 --with-ck-launch

comment How universal is sudo?
So, please do correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm quite new to shell scripting as such. This script is not capable of privilege escalation per se, is it? I cannot run it as a normal user without installing sudo on my machine. Is there any way to manually emulate what sudo does? Guess, I'll go and check the source for sudo, try to emulate it on my own and try..

But doesnt your script require that sudo be installed? Is there any way we can gain super-user access without the use of sudo? Through plain scripting?

Another good point. Depends on what the sudoers file says.

Do check if your audio works after a cold boot, BEFORE you start X-Server.
