comment Do mplayer's audio filters contain the opposite of “Karaoke” Mode?
-af help doesn't seem to list anything like this, third party modules for mplayer, if there is a such a thing, would also be acceptable.

revised Can't resolve CentOS 6.2 server by name from OS X
The hardware doesn't matter, the source operating system barely does.

Tim, I suggest that you flag your question and ask a mod to move it to either Unix & Linux StackExchange, or Server Fault. This question is predominately how do I configure avahi to automatically announce my server's hostname. It's not actually a question about Apple Hardware or Software. OS X automatically broadcasts the computer name and associated address for link-local resolution and browsing, Avahi does (last I knew) only on a service-by-service basis. The details of which, however, are quite a bit over my head.

I consider cjm's content an improvement, and he got rep to show it. I'm not saying this to rub it in, I'm pointing it out because it's dually beneficial to a user. I didn't post the question for the rep either, I just found the answer on my own after the fact.

What if I wanted to give the rep to someone instead of throwing it away? :)

And of course, immediately after asking this question, I start hitting the related questions and ultimately come up with the answer via (where else), the man page for less... Guess this question just became rep fodder.

I started to notice $COLUMNS and was thinking something along the same lines. alias diff="diff -W ${COLUMNS}". I think I'd prefer to ask the shell rather than rely on the environment though.
