comment pidgin-blinklight not working with thinkpad_acpi (T430)
I’m the author of pidgin-blinklight, and I cannot use it myself for the reasons mentioned by @Muling. But it seems that the power LED is controllable, maybe I’ll use that as a fallback; I just need a reliable way to detect that the machine is affected by this issue – what do you think?

I guess hardcopy could be part of the solution, but of course that would only be usable inside a script that finds out all running screens, allocates a temporary file name, calls hardcopy on each of them, prints it to the user and removes the temporary file. Which would be possible, but does not qualify as a single command :-)

I was looking further at this solution. It is possible to recursively bind-mount / to a new /, but not and recursivley mark it as read-only.

Again, needs root privileges and other ”global setup”. But an option, yes.

I still want to run the program in the current machine to avoid having to set up a new system, new environment etc. A virtual machine is way too heavyweight for my use case.

There is something like this at github.com/certik/restrict, but it is configured by compiling and doesn’t seem to be in widespread use.

You probably mean open... Well, I would consider using an existing solution that uses this approach, yes.
