I have been employed as a programmer-type since 1983, but always in non-IT positions. My principal interests are in applications, data analysis and reporting using SAS software on Windows and UNIX environments. I also am quite fluent with the Teradata and Oracle database, especially with respect to data extraction using SQL.

Skip first 3 byte of a file Don't know about AIX, but on Solaris you must use /usr/xpg4/bin/tail, at least on my machine. Good tip nonetheless! |

Startup script not executing after reboot on Solaris The entry is a link to /etc/init.d/apache2, which is set executable (1). The first line is '#!/sbin/sh' and seems correct (2). After rebooting, we start Apache manually as root using the same link (i.e. /etc/rc3.d/S75Apache2 start) (4). All the required paths are defined in the script itself (5). Can you think of anything else to check? |

How to set environment variable JAVA_HOME that will be saved on exit? I don't know Suse, but wouldn't it be better to define this in the system profile? JAVA_HOME is defined in /etc/profile on my Solaris server (a system with many accounts). |
