comment Where can I find documentation on shell script syntax for using a regex within a variable construct?
So basically, they're testing that p is numeric, and that its /proc/ directory exists. Correct?

comment How do I edit a file and preserve its access control list / SELinux security context?
However, I found that I actually needed to use :set backupcopy=yes to preserve the file's attributes using Vim -- even though the Vim docs said that is the default on Unix. Guess it's actually defaulting to "auto". (I'm using version 7.2.411 on CentOS 6.2)

comment What's the difference between “s” and “S” in ls -la?
Eonil: There's nothing shameful about needing to ask a question, after all that's what this site is about. And as for those who say RTFM, many of us DO THAT and still cannot find the simplest answer after wading through pages of hard-to-read programmer-written documentation (and I'm a programmer). In some cases, we're on systems where the man pages were not installed. For all those reasons, and many more, sites like this are a godsend. Thanks for asking the same question I had.
