How to run a command when a directory's contents are updated? Cool. Would I just put the above script in my bashrc so that it run's when i log in? Is there another way I can have it running all the time? |

Changing file extensions I get this: $ rename .x .y *.x Transliteration pattern not terminated at (eval 1) line 2. However 's/.x/.y/' as a pattern seems to work. |

truncating file names @Falmarri: It would be nice to know the generalized solution as well, because this scenario does occur with some frequency. |
