comment How to mount a .jpg centered into a .pdf (using defined page size and borders)?
To do: Make the script refuse to run if any output .pdf files exist, to prevent accidentally overwriting user data.

comment Alsa mixer unmute problem on Thinkpad laptop
A mute button that mutes but does not unmute can be a hint to the issue that, when using Alsa with pulseaudio, one needs a different command to properly unmute. Since this is discussed on askubuntu extensively, I just link it: here, here and here.

comment convert images to pdf: How to make PDF Pages same size
General hint: $(echo "150*8.27" | bc) is still not great for floating point. Works here because it's a multiplication. For $(echo "150/8.27" | bc) though, the result is 18 (truncated to integer). Instead, call bc with higher scale: $(echo "150/8.27" | bc -l), the results is 18.137847….

comment Is there a unix command that gives the maximum of two numbers?
To conveniently call this within a shell script's file, you can pipe in the function definition to bc as well, right before the function call. No second file needed then :)

comment How can I make a montage which seamlessly tiles the same one image file?
Is it just me, or does montage / ImageMagic now take each input file only once, even if repeated multiple times?
