comment Deleting files on btrfs through smb
This is what I feared, maybe I could make something that when samba deletes a file, it really moves the file to some non-shared folder and then have a script delete all the files in there? I don't know if you can configure smb to behave like that

comment In the usage string of my custom shell script, shall I also display --help and --version?
I've been in the same position not knowing how I should do things properly. I have read the Gnu Coding Standard (gnu.org/prep/standards/standards.html) which answers some of the questions you might have about standardization and consistency. The relevant section for arguments is "Standards for Command Line Interfaces".

I think this might have to do with the USB autosuspend feauture of laptop-mode-tools. Have you tried disabling it? This is pretty much a wild guess but I would start investigating laptop-mode-tools.

comment detect if key is pressed from script
ok this works for the alt key and control key, the only problem is that I have my capslock be another control key so the keyup on the control leaves the capslock down. I have searched for a way to keyup capslock but this seems not to be possible with xte. any suggestions?

comment In KDE, how can I create a custom keyboard shortcut that prints the current date?
I was searching for the same thing so thanks. It seems that the sleep in my case is needed because of the shortcut itself, i.e. I use a shortcut that contains Control which implies that when the date is "typed in" by the script, Control is pressed down and so the actuall keystrokes that are sent to X are Control+<first letter of the date>, etc...

comment How can I control an existing remote shell?
can you run ssh? if so, and you still really want to use the existing shell, start screen using vnc in that shell, then from ssh you can screen -x as suggested by adam zalcman.

You say there is no subprocess involed. Isn't the () a subshell? I don't want to be pendantic but I'm unsure what is happening now. For instance I know that when I have a script and I don't want it to polute the current shell with cd's for instance, I do it inside a (). Also running (sleep 4)& for example followed by a ps shows me the process is still running. Can you please elaborate.

comment ArchBang dual boot with Windows: HowTo
you can do that easely by going to /boot/grub/menu.lst and uncommenting the windows line. Make sure you have chainloader +1 set for windows 7 and also make sure that the correct partition is given. You can view your partitions with cfdisk for example which can show you the labels so you know which is which.
