1) What's with the temporary files file.txt and file2.txt? 2) grep -P is a GNU extension. 3) You're making assumptions in cut -c 3- about how the TTY is named; it will break if the output is There is a screen on:\n 1234.pts-2.somehost. Suggested solution: screen -x -m $(screen -list | awk 'NR == 2 { print $1 }')
