How to get comfortable in linux as an ex-windows user? Hrm, thanks for the answer @sr_, but I am thinking more along the lines of someone who never needed to do any command line stuff before. There's very little need for the command line for general use these days, and while I agree it is a hugely important tool and aspect of linux, I'd prefer to leave it out as much as possible at this early stage, to help reduce the initial shock. I clarified the question a little. |

How to get comfortable in linux as an ex-windows user? @IgnacioVazquez-Abrams: perhaps. But I think that there can be a reasonable compromise somewhere - ie. not going into kernel design and things like that, but at least covering the practical differences that an average non-geek user might encounter.. |

Is there a readme reader like man? They're often not gzipped, also, presumably they can sometimes be in /usr/local/share/doc/, so it'd be good to automatically find the appropriate file, without typing it manually. |

Restart usb mouse driver? @JimParis: I'd agree, but it also happens sometimes without suspending (less common though). I've tried looking at dmesg, but I don't really know what to look for.. |

Restart usb mouse driver? @warl0ck: you think it might be a usb hardware problem in the computer? Possible, I guess, although it resets itself after a reboot most times. I don't have windows, so I can't test, unfortunately. Even if I did, the problem isn't regular, so it might be difficult to know. |

Why can't vim find syntax.vim on my fresh Ubuntu installation? For the second error, it might be worth trying unset VIMRUNTIME before trying to export it. That worked for me. |

How do I choose a graphics card for Linux? Old nvidia cards can be painful though - even though the drivers are still available, they seem not to compikle very easily on newer kernels (my experience is with an Nvidia VANTA card) |
