comment keyserver timed out when trying to add a GPG public key
sudo is not necessary. Heck, if it were, you'd need to sudo every time you get an email with a new key, that's stupid. There's probably something very broken with your setup (maybe root owns your gpg keyring, since you've been using sudo before).

Off-topic: what GUI application is that on those screenshots?

comment How to copy directories with preserving hardlinks?
It's not reasonable to assume he uses the same OS as you, and it's not common practice to install gnu base tools on non-gnu systems. As a minimum, you should always clarify this. Using truisms DECREASES portability; POSIX is way more standard.

+1 on tar, -1 for using gnu-specific arguments for cp.

comment What are the pros/cons of Upstart and systemd?
Two systemd disadvantages you missed: (1) all startup scripts need to be rewritten. (2) there's way less compatibility with non-linux OSs (like BSDs, for example).

To be honest, pulseaudio was a solution to a non-existant problem. There's nothing PA can do that ALSA can't, and I've heard PLENTY of people having issues with PA, over and over again.

Hadn't heard about it. Didn't find it after a quick google either. Great job :)

comment How to clear DNS cache on DD-WRT
The other answer has the only way that I know of for restarting services on dd-wrt. Not too clean, but I don't know any other way.

There is no "sudo" on dd-wrt. There is not /etc/init.d on dd-wrt, nor any equivalent.

comment Tips for putting ~ under source control
Wow, you certainly are a negromancer; My post was about 18 months ago. I've long moved to git for $HOME. I do, however, use a centralized repository, both for offsiteness, and for pushing when the other PC is off (so it can pull later from there).

comment What is a distro-agnostic way determine the OS install date?
Expecting users to use ext{2,3,4} is as distro-agnostic as expecting "/etc" to exist. I even think "/etc" is more likely to exists.
