comment Can I choose which of my dual screens a youtube video will maximize to?
My browser window does not span, and still maximizes to the other display.

@penguin - yeah, it maximizes to a different screen. Ubuntu 10.04, 64 bit.

comment What are some decent alt-tab replacements for Gnome?
Opacity solves my 3rd problem completely. 1st problem solved by setting "popup window delay" to 0. 2nd point - alt-shift-tab does work, but only if you do it from the start. If you start alt-tabbing, but after a few alt-tabs hold shift, it doesn't start going in reverse (very useful if you pass the target window by just one window) . This is still unsolved, but I'll accept your answer because it's great and solved my other issues - thanks.

comment How to disable “Resize Window” shortcut (Alt-F8)?
Thanks - but when I opened ccsm, I saw that alt-f8 was really disabled there (remember, I did disable it via the built in configuration). After a system restart, this seems to be resolved.

@penguin359 - wasn't able to run ccsm yet.

How do I reach ccsm? (Just running ccsm isn't working. Does it mean I'm not using Compiz? How do I find out what I am using?)

How do I run ccsm? 'ccsm' itself isn't installed on my machine.

comment How do I find on which physical device a folder is located?
OK, I did that and got /dev/mapper/fun-root as my Filesystem. Now what? (My computer's name is 'fun')

comment Where should I copy-paste-install software to?
/home/myusername is on an NFS drive, so that's a no go. I'm the only user of the machine - so /opt, you say?

comment How to resolve “your browser does not allow access to your computer's clipboard” on Google Docs?
Hmm. It works from my desktop, but when I tried it yesterday from my laptop it didn't. I don't know what the difference is, both should be nigh-identical machines, OS wise.

Right now I'm trying to copy from Google Docs, which doesn't seem to work.

These are very general tips, I was aiming for something a bit more concrete.

@Gilles - I thought that I asked something similar before, yes, sorry. Closed the original as a dup (because it belongs more here than at Super User).

comment What is the “/usr/local/src” folder meant for?
@Faheem - my home directory is on an NFS drive, so I definitely don't work my source branch to be there (too slow).

Thanks, works like a charm. Slowly but surely, I'll learn how to swim in linux. Why did they have to make it so non-intuitive in the first place? (You have to admit ctrl-left, ctrl-right are better choices)

Ctrl+V, Ctrl--> prints "^[[1;5C", and I'm using gnome-terminal.

I doubt I'll actually need to type a literal TAB, certainly not in the frequency in which I need to paste text.

comment How to copy a file from my home folder to /usr
@Faheem - why /.../src? Why not /usr/local? I haven't memorized the folder structure yet, I just want somewhere to put it (looking for the equivalent of C:\Program Files).
