Thanks @YanickGirouard, @IgnacioVazquezAbrams! You two have just saved me a ton of manual labor on my research! :)

comment How do I set the password of a new user after the account has already been created?
Oh... ok! :) That's simple enough... I thought passwd only resets one's own account.

Actually, I'm using Redhat mostly, but I'm starting to use Debian (ubuntu) more often these days too.

comment How do I use sftp to get a directory and all its contents?
I think you're right... it is a duplicate... but the answer given by @uther is more thorough than the answer given before to the other question... Is there a way to post his answer onto the other question. Since my question is so similarly, feel free to delete my question but please repost his answer on the other question.

comment How do I run a windows executable in linux shell script?
@IgnacioVazquez-Abrams: Yes, i have an account on both systems, but no privileges to install software one either system... it's just cumbersome to execute in one, then switch to the other to complete my task... I just wanted to know if there was a way around it... apparently not, but thanks anyways :)

comment How do I run a windows executable in linux shell script?
I don't really need most of the features of a virtual windows environment (i.e. graphics, etc)... is there a way to get an emulator just for the windows DOS command prompt? That is really all that I'll need to run the program.

@DeepakMittal: I'm not sure what you mean... could you elaborate?

comment How do I remove multiple files with a common prefix and suffix?
This is a very clever work around the 'argument list too long' error. In my case, I have twenty thousand files, so I guess I would have to use a for loop from 0,..,20. Right?

comment How to rename multiple files by removing the extension?
Thanks so much! I never realized that there were different versions of 'rename'. I assume there are other subtle differences between the commands in debian & redhat. I'll have to lookup some of their differences.
