comment Command line for converting .SWF to animated GIF
Thank you again. I did manage to uncompress the SWF file, but then ffmpeg gave another error (could not find codec parameters). I'm going to take you up on your offer to give it a go. We'll send you the SWF file. Thanks!

Thanks. Very helpful. My error is [swf @ 0x207f6c0] Compressed SWF format not supported. It looks like I need cws2fws but it doesn't appear to be available in the Ubuntu 12.04 repos.

comment ideal btrfs storage scheme to incorporate external USB HDD as backup media
I think RAID1 with an external USB drive will slow my system down too much (so I've been told). Maybe the send/receive script with hourly snapshots is about as close as I can get to the ideal...

@mikeserv - thanks and I look forward to any suggestions or tutorials you come up with. I have been using btrfs for several years and it has been great. But I have not tapped into any of its advanced features. I think all the warnings about it not being ready for serious use made me hesitant to explore anything other than the basic functions.

@mikeserv - I think you have put me on the right track. Thanks. Now I need to find a send/receive tutorial. The man pages are not enough. I believe I also need to investigate snapper and buttersink (pypi.python.org/pypi/buttersink/0.5)

@jim - Dreamweaver. And I did ask there.

I decided to come at this from a different angle -- I can try to find out why Libre Office Calc doesn't behave as expected. I opened a new question for that. A solution to either approach would satisfy me, so I'll leave this question here.

@jasonwryan - the problem is due to the lack of an HTML editor for Linux that has a table sorting feature. If I were working on OS X or Windows I wouldn't even need to ask the question. It is a Linux issue and I'm hopeful that there is a Linux way to solve it. The problem is about editing a document on my desktop. I cannot imagine that this question fits on Webmasters.

@jasonwryan - I disagree.

I want to sort it alphanumerically in ascending order based on column 2 which contains item names. Column 1 is images.

comment How to view adobeconnect video offline?
@ChristopherSchmidt - I don't see anything at that link that is relevant. Those are viewers for viewing online content being streamed from an Adobe Connect server. My question is how do I view that OFFLINE (i.e., not connecting to an Adobe Connect server). I already have the files downloaded.

According to the links, the Wikipedia article is referring to the Adobe Connect server. I am looking for a client application for viewing.

comment proper configuration of visudo NOPASSWD for bash backup script
Thanks. Yes, I had to do the same alteration of /etc/sudoers. So our results are the same for the test script. But my actual script chokes on sudo -v (as in top.bash) and I cannot find any differences in the code (or file permissions).

comment proper configuration of visudo NOPASSWD for bash backup script
I ran /tmp/top.bash without sudo and as my regular user; that's how my real script gets called. It worked. It even works if I add in the while true loop. But in my real script it does not work unless I remove sudo -v and the while true loop. However, I see no differences in the code at all. Very strange...

Thanks. This all works for me, except for sudo -v in top.bash (and the while loop in my original script). Maybe I can find a way around using those...

@F.Hauri I did choose your answer now. I learned from both answers (yours and @mikeserv) , so thanks to both of you!

@F.Hauri - thanks. Works great! I use kdialog, so I posted an answer showing your code working with kdialog here: unix.stackexchange.com/a/119895/15010
