comment What happened to the GLP OpenGL extension?
Chadversary answered two of the three questions (are there any alternatives? similar developments today?), for the other one (What happened to GLP?) I have old private mail from one of the Sun engineers involved in which he said they proposed GLP to the OpenGL ARB, but the ARB chose EGL to standardize on instead.

comment Equivalent of date --reference in Solaris
There is a stat command in Solaris 11, but then if you have Solaris 11, there is also the simpler solution of just using /usr/gnu/bin/date.

comment Startup script not executing after reboot on Solaris
@BruceEdiger - On Solaris run level 3 is multi-user, run level 5 is power-off, so 3 is definitely much better than 5. User-level networking is started during run level 2, so is ready by the time 3 is entered.

On Solaris 11, even the native tar has compression support now, you don't need to force gtar.

comment What is a good X application I can use to test the X server on Solaris?
That's where they reside on releases up through (and including) Solaris 10. On Solaris 11 they're now in /usr/bin, though compatibility symlinks remain for /usr/openwin & /usr/X11 paths.
