comment How to terminate GUI in SunOS from a shell-script
Nope, when Solaris used runlevels (prior to the switch to SMF in Solaris 10), the GUI was started in runlevel 2, as part of the "local system services" -- runlevel 3 was for running servers for other systems to connect to.

comment Will there ever be a Solaris 12?
blogs.oracle.com/markusflierl/entry/… is from the Oracle VP in charge of core Solaris development about the roadmap presentation he gave for Solaris at Oracle OpenWorld a couple months ago. Slides from his talk are at oracleus.activeevents.com/2013/connect/fileDownload/session/…

comment Does Android SDK work in Solaris?
Solaris includes Java out of the box. (They were both Sun products, now both Oracle products.) Python, gcc, & gmake are included in later Solaris releases as well. None of that is specific to the Android SDK.

comment Why does a new directory have a hard link count of 2 before anything is added to it?
Whether links to directories are allowed, and whether you can count subdirs from the link count, are both dependent on which filesystem you're using - some allow, some don't.

comment Viewing very wide files
The problem pointed out in that page is that awk -F works with Solaris awk for single characters, but not for strings. The newer awks (nawk, xpg4 awk, or on more recent Solaris versions, GNU gawk) support more features than the classic awk does.

comment Tool in UNIX to subtract dates
On Solaris 11, it will be installed as both /usr/bin/gdate and /usr/gnu/bin/date so you can choose to use it either by name or by $PATH setting.

comment change shell in Solaris/SunOS for your user only wihtout access to /etc/passwd
Unfortunately, Solaris doesn't provide chsh, so unless the local admin installed it, that won't help here.
