Todd Deshane is a Software Build Engineer at Excelsior College. He was a Technology Evangelist for Xen.org and began his involvement with Xen in 2003 as a graduate student at Clarkson University. Todd has published several research papers in virtualization and is a co-author of the book "Running Xen". He has also taught tutorial sessions on Xen and presented research at conferences. Todd's role at Xen.org included integrating, testing, and documenting OpenStack with the Xen Cloud Platform (XCP).

Take a look at your /var/log/xen/qemu-dm-* log. That message happens when QEMU doesn't start correctly for some reason.

be sure to use "clocksource=pit" to boot (at least for Linux 3.0+ kernels). VirtualBox and/or VMware might have the ability to passthrough the VT-x features to a guest, which would allow nested HVM guests.
