comment Amount of memory transfer on a running Linux
Memory-to-CPU transfer is managed by the hardware and most real hardware has no built-in memory statistics unit. OTOH simulated hardware (virtual machines) and profilers can often report such statistics.

comment Can't change to Korean-named directory on my debian server
You can have some invisible symbols in your directory name. I see your cd 한 국 어 has spaces between the Korean characters which is probably not what you want. What does LANG=C ls -b show as the name of your directory?

comment Securely allowing users to create accounts
You must allow only your own program through sudoers, not the system's adduser or useradd or whatever. Your program will sanitize its input and run adduser only with safe arguments.

Ever heard of the setuid bit?

comment Corrupted gnu-screen session not displaying UTF-8 correctly
The question is, what's your current locale in the bad session, not what you normally set it to (we know that normally it works!)

comment zcat a file line by line?
oops... a correction: popen is not a system call, that would be popen(3) library function.

comment zcat a file line by line?
If you don't want the user to type zcat |, you can use popen(2) system call to create the same thing from within your application.

You are doing it wrong. You need to read up on basic concepts of Linux/Unix/POSIX. The first concept you need is a pipe.

comment Can't boot Debian with windows installed first
The easiest way to get Debian to boot without touching BIOS settings is to use the Windows bootloader. See here.

comment Boot into a chroot?
vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1/chroot won't work. One probably could simulate this with a method similar to what is used in initrd. See e.g. here. You mount /new_root as described there, then instead of cd /new_root do cd /new_root/chroot and continue.

comment Linux child processes not being culled
There's no reason why these processes should die. Are you sure you were killing the shell under OS X, and not the terminal emulator?
